Narodnoslobodilačka vojska
Narodnoslobodilačka vojska i partizanski odredi Jugoslavije (slovenski: Narodnoosvobodilna vojska in partizanski odredi Jugoslavije; makedonski: Народно-ослободителна војска и партизански одреди на Југославија) skraćeno Narodnoslobodilačka vojska Jugoslavije (NOVJ) je naziv za paravojnu formaciju koja se za vrijeme drugog svjetskog rata na području bivše Jugoslavije od 1941. do 1945. godine pod vodstvo KPJ i Josipa Broza Tita borila protiv oružanih formacija Sila Osovine. Od 1945. je službeno djelovala pod nazivom Jugoslavenska armija, odnosno kao regularne oružane snage Demokratske federativne Jugoslavije, a kasnije i Federativne Narodne Republike Jugoslavije. Za pripadnike te oružane formacije se koristio i neformalni izraz partizani.
NOVJ je nastao grupa malobrojnih, slabo naoružanih formacija od kojih je prva pod nazivom Sisački partizanski odred formirana 22.6. 1941. u šumi Brezovica kod Siska. One su se za nekoliko mjeseci organizirale pod nazivom Naroodnoslobodilački partizanski odredi Jugoslavije. Uglavnom su djelovali na ograničenom području i bili sastavljeni od lokalnog ljudstva.
21.12. 1941. nakon sloma Užičke Republike u mjesto Rudo se fomira Prva proleterska brigada NOVJ. To je bila prva proleterska brigada, odnosno vojna formacija koja nije bila zasnovana na teritorijalnom principu, nego zamišljena za djelovanje na cijeloj teritoriji Jugoslavije. Ona se često naziva prvom regularnom jedinicom NOVJ. Godine 1942. je formirano još nekoliko proleterskih brigada, ali i brigada na teritorijalnom principu. One su 1.11. 1942. spojene u prve divizije i korpuse, a NOPOJ mijenja ime u NOVJ.
Već prije toga su 21.5. 1942. dva aviona ratnog zrakoplovstva NDH prebjegla partizanima, stvorivši tako osnov partizanskog ratnog zrakoplovstva. 10.9. 1942. u Podgori kraj Makarske je formiran Mornarički vod koji je bio osnov partizanske ratne mornarice koja je djelovala do kraja rata, i imala posebno značajnu ulogu u završnim operacijama 1945.
